Missy Cochran Oregon Photographer bio picture

This is Me

Hi there! I am Missy Cochran and I love photography, I fact, you could say that I am obsessive. It all started when I got married and had my wonderfully awesome grandpa take my pictures. He was a professional photographer and I thought all photographers were the same. After the wedding, I got the pictures back and they were all very traditional. Not grandpa’s fault, but mine for not knowing what I wanted. Anyway, I realized too late that I had actually wanted something different than what I got. Since my wedding is all over, I now get to live vicariously through my awesome couples. Other stuff about me is that I make a goal every three months to run regularly, but haven’t yet quite found my mojo. I think I like the idea of being a runner but maybe I am not really one at heart! I love sweets and I love my church and doing things that add joy to my life.

Portland Photo Workshop

Can you tell that I really want to photograph a wedding?  Craig Mitchell hosted a lighting workshop for some local photographers and it really confirmed that I love natural light more than anything!  It was so fun to take pictures of the models when they weren’t posing, but that is just me!  Here is the make-up artist, Nicole getting one of the models ready.  Is this not reminiscent of getting ready pictures?  I think so, and I love these!

The make-up tool belt of power.

Nicole the make-up artist is so beautiful!  She was even modeling her own amazing self!!

Isn’t Melissa cute in these?  So stylish.  These girls are so stylin!  Very inspirational to me because I am so casual all the time.  I wanna be stylish!

Here is Craig showing us how to use the light and then there is me shooting all natural!

Jenni, she is such a nut!  I love it!

So, the people on the bridge were participating too, fun!  People came up to us asking what was going on a lot.  I should have had some cards on me, but I didn’t.  Sometimes I just want to enjoy photography and not be on all the time.  So, it totally looks like this fireman is checking me out, but he is just laughing because a group of us gals were looking so silly getting athletic (a term coined by Jenni) with out cameras.  One of the firemen looks like he is posing for me.  Very nice :)

Jenni and Kim here.  Kim and I hung out for a little while before the workshop and we actually got to the workshop late since I forgot to change my watch from daylight savings.  We were thinking we had plenty of time to kill and instantly panicked when we figured out the folly of our ways!  While we were hanging out before I did a few pictures of Kim.  Fun fun.

After the workshop, we went to Red Robin and ate.  A bunch of us were starving, well I was because I had only eaten a little lunch and I was a clean plate-er!  Kim paid for me as a birthday present!  That was so sweet!  Thanks Kim!  Oh yah, yesterday was my birthday, good times.

Lorna’s Whole Family

For this session I got to leave Portland and travel to St Helen’s Oregon to take these family portraits.

Sometimes I feel like there aren’t enough boys on the blog so hopefully this session will balance it out a little.  In the last session I did with the little girl and the lollipop, I had more pictures of her than her brother and sometimes I feel a little bummed about that.  In that particular case it was because he wanted to run around instead of staying where I wanted him to so the ones I did get were because I was chasing him around the field, ha ha.  You may not be able to tell in these pictures, but we (myself plus mom and dad) were working hard to get everyone together for a family picture.

Photobucket

The boys sat here for about three seconds before they ran in two directions.  The one with Lorna is awesome because she is trying to make it a game and smile herself.  Before I took the picture, her son was crying because she had picked him up and he wanted to go where he wanted to go.  You can even see the tear still in his eye.  Aren’t his blue eyes amazing?

Photobucket

One down, but the trick was getting them both with mom and dad at the same time.  We let them do some separate to get used to idea.

Photobucket

Now we are all together.  Dad’s amazing antics get both boys laughing.

Yay!!!  We finally got everyone together.  At this age, I don’t even try getting everyone to look at the camera.  If fact I tell the parents to be engaged with the kids and just make sure they aren’t blocking your faces.  The picture on the right is hilarious.  I was directed by Sage to take this picture.

Photobucket

I loved Lorna’s boots and needed an excuse to get some sassy pictures of them.  These are so fun!  Since when do you get engagement pictures after you are married?

Photobucket

Sassy boots again, love em!

Photobucket

This was so funny, Sage is stoked to get on the trike and ride around outside.  He is quickly discouraged by the fact that it is very difficult to peddle on grass.

Keeping up

Photobucket

This kid has so much personality, overflowing with it.  Too fun!  I laugh when I think of all the times he tried to run me over and curve away just in time to avoid actually hitting me.  The middle picture shows him doing exactly that.  Do you see that mischievous grin?

Photobucket

Photobucket

Jude was just in keep up mode and when Lorna said it was Jude’s turn on the trike, Sage went inside to vent his frustration in time out.  Turns out, he had missed his nap earlier and that is just the way things roll sometimes.  It’s tough being a kid.

Photobucket

How could I have forgotten to tell you?  Lorna is a photographer!  Here are some head shots I got for her at the end of the session.

Family Photography

This is just a quick post to give Lorna a quick peek at what I got for her family.  I love the trike one since it’s just a little too big, ha ha.  Good times!

HOW THEY MET In the cafeteria at the college they attended (yes, so romantic). A year later, a mutual friend set the up on a double date and cliché as it is, the rest was history.

THE ENGAGEMENT He proposed through a “children’s book” he created for her, through a story where he was in search for the other half of his heart. It was the perfect surprise and she cried and said yes, and they spent the evening going out to dinner and dessert and celebrating.

WHAT ATTRACTED HER TO HIM Ian’s sense of humor and his friendly and caring nature. He was easy going, fun and has a singing voice like you’ve never heard! :)
