My Newest Love
I found it! Sun in Oregon during the wintertime! Jeff and I are loving skiing with our Timberline Spring passes and it lends so much to my sanity during the dark winter days. Check out the view! The picture that Jeff took with Mt. Jefferson in the background really gives you a great idea of how awesome the visibility is up there. It was so bright we could hardly keep our eyes open for these pictures. When we are on the mountain I feel like maybe I have died and gone to heaven. Then I fall and biff it face first into the snow and know I am alive. I am getting pretty good at standing up from a fallen position because that happens to me a lot!
- How fun Missy! What a view! I'm a whimp when it comes to the mountain. I've only attempted skiing 3 times, but each time it was in a "sideways snow" type situation and I figured it must always be blizzardy on the mountain, so I gave up. :) But your photos look inspiring.April 22, 2010 - 4:14 pm

Pose for Candy
I have been posting a lot of Mel and her new baby and her kids during the “off” season when the weather is generally rainy and it seems nobody is planning portrait sessions. Mel has been letting me try out new things and shoot film and it has been so great! Her kids are 2 and 4 and usually taking pictures of them is tricky. With digital you can chase kids all around and take a million pictures and you know a few will turn out because kids are super cute and it is impossible not to get some cute ones shooting that way. Since I was using film for these, I had to think of ways to get the kids to listen to me and still have fun. I took a grand total of 70 pictures and at least half of them turned out super sweet! The secret lies below
And here is the secret to the magic! Drum-roll please…Pose for Candy! A little title I made up for a classic trick. These candies don’t cause drool or stain the tongue. I had the boys literally eating out of my hand for over an hour. I was a bit worried that this method would include giving kids way too much candy, but at the end of the session we had only gone through two rolls of smarties for two boys. Not bad for having their complete attention for over an hour!
- I love these Missy! I love there one with the swing. Kids are always a little tricky! You rocked it! MaalaeaApril 6, 2010 - 8:03 pm
- I'll pose for candy too! ;) Great job on these, Missy. I'm loving their green frog boots and overalls. I'm a sucker for cute denim overalls!April 6, 2010 - 11:26 pm

- Oh yeah, remember how the m&m's worked for the flash card drills? they were little and you couldn't accumulate very much, yet it made the drills and trying to beat your own records on time much more fun.April 8, 2010 - 6:36 am
- Great idea! I've switched to film as well and I've been pleasantly surprised that I have a better ratio of great pictures...at least 50% are keepers and the keepers are SO much better than the digital could ever be! Do you find it hard to sell the whole "film" idea to potential clients, though? I'm finding it challenging in a market where EVERYONE is digital and there's not a big art community where I live to appreciate it.April 11, 2010 - 2:16 pm
- I have all my film work scanned to files that are available to my clients the same way digital files are available. There really isn't a difference except the cost of processing!April 11, 2010 - 2:28 pm
- Super cute Missy! glad your still in the swing of things girl! Loving the Film!April 12, 2010 - 2:24 pm

Caylene G. Fitness Competitor
Caylene called me today asking for some pictures that she needed for Wednesday. It’s a photographer’s dream to be able to take pictures on one of the most beautiful days in an otherwise gloomy Oregon winter. Here is what we got.
Children and Family Portrait Sale
Hi everyone, here’s the deal
If you book a family of children session to take place in May, you will get the session and the 8×10 print ready disc for $350! This is a $650 value! I just bought a book about children’s portrait sessions (a very expensive book) and I want to try out the ideas. So, let’s say you want to book a session. Call me (or email and I will call you) and we will chat about what you are hoping to get out of the session. I will ask about the images you like on my website so that we can book a similar session for you. I will help you with clothing options phone and email. The disc is for your personal use only. You will still get a gallery for family to order from if they want to and it will be available to you for ordering large prints or albums, but if you only want the disc, that it totally fine!
This one is new, you pick the location (I will give you pointers when we chat). I am charging $1 a mile for any location outside of zip code 97229 and I expect to travel since everything I photograph is on location. I use google maps to figure out how much to charge for travel, so hopefully that will give you an idea. Oh, and if you have a friend who wants to do this to and we book the session for the same day and location back-to-back, I will waive the travel fee up to 50 miles and if you have two friends (three sessions) at the same location, back-to-back, I will waive travel up to 100 miles.
This Month may book up really fast, so don’t wait to call! I am so excited to get some momentum taking portraits!!
