Missy Cochran Oregon Photographer bio picture

This is Me

Hi there! I am Missy Cochran and I love photography, I fact, you could say that I am obsessive. It all started when I got married and had my wonderfully awesome grandpa take my pictures. He was a professional photographer and I thought all photographers were the same. After the wedding, I got the pictures back and they were all very traditional. Not grandpa’s fault, but mine for not knowing what I wanted. Anyway, I realized too late that I had actually wanted something different than what I got. Since my wedding is all over, I now get to live vicariously through my awesome couples. Other stuff about me is that I make a goal every three months to run regularly, but haven’t yet quite found my mojo. I think I like the idea of being a runner but maybe I am not really one at heart! I love sweets and I love my church and doing things that add joy to my life.

My Newest Love

I found it!  Sun in Oregon during the wintertime!  Jeff and I are loving skiing with our Timberline Spring passes and it lends so much to my sanity during the dark winter days.  Check out the view!  The picture that Jeff took with Mt. Jefferson in the background really gives you a great idea of how awesome the visibility is up there.  It was so bright we could hardly keep our eyes open for these pictures.  When we are on the mountain I feel like maybe I have died and gone to heaven.  Then I fall and biff it face first into the snow and know I am alive.  I am getting pretty good at standing up from a fallen position because that happens to me a lot!

I made one!  I am setting up my blog so that it will automatically post there.  If it’s easier to follow me on facebook, there you go!

Pose for Candy

I have been posting a lot of Mel and her new baby and her kids during the “off” season when the weather is generally rainy and it seems nobody is planning portrait sessions.  Mel has been letting me try out new things and shoot film and it has been so great!  Her kids are 2 and 4 and usually taking pictures of them is tricky.  With digital you can chase kids all around and take a million pictures and you know a few will turn out because kids are super cute and it is impossible not to get some cute ones shooting that way.  Since I was using film for these, I had to think of ways to get the kids to listen to me and still have fun.  I took a grand total of 70 pictures and at least half of them turned out super sweet!  The secret lies below ;)

And here is the secret to the magic!  Drum-roll please…Pose for Candy!  A little title I made up for a classic trick.  These candies don’t cause drool or stain the tongue.  I had the boys literally eating out of my hand for over an hour.  I was a bit worried that this method would include giving kids way too much candy, but at the end of the session we had only gone through two rolls of smarties for two boys.  Not bad for having their complete attention for over an hour!

Turn on the jams and rock out!  I love that you can kind of see her little belly button through the onesie!

Caylene G. Fitness Competitor

Caylene  called me today asking for some pictures that she needed for Wednesday.  It’s a photographer’s dream to be able to take pictures on one of the most beautiful days in an otherwise gloomy Oregon winter.  Here is what we got.

Children and Family Portrait Sale

Hi everyone, here’s the deal

If you book a family of children session to take place in May, you will get the session and the 8×10 print ready disc for $350!  This is a $650 value!  I just bought a book about children’s portrait sessions (a very expensive book) and I want to try out the ideas.  So, let’s say you want to book a session.  Call me (or email and I will call you) and we will chat about what you are hoping to get out of the session.  I will ask about the images you like on my website so that we can book a similar session for you.  I will help you with clothing options phone and email.  The disc is for your personal use only.  You will still get a gallery for family to order from if they want to and it will be available to you for ordering large prints or albums, but if you only want the disc, that it totally fine!

This one is new, you pick the location (I will give you pointers when we chat).  I am charging $1 a mile for any location outside of zip code 97229 and I expect to travel since everything I photograph is on location.  I use google maps to figure out how much to charge for travel, so hopefully that will give you an idea.  Oh, and if you have a friend who wants to do this to and we book the session for the same day and location back-to-back, I will waive the travel fee up to 50 miles and if you have two friends (three sessions) at the same location, back-to-back, I will waive travel up to 100 miles.

This Month may book up really fast, so don’t wait to call! I am so excited to get some momentum taking portraits!!

Experimental Photo Session

Erika’s Ann invited me to co-shoot this session with her.  She lured me there with the promise of horses and dreadlocks.  It was so fun hanging out with Erika and her friends who prodused this editorial style session with resources on hand.  You can see the rest of the photos here.
