Missy Cochran Oregon Photographer bio picture

This is Me

Hi there! I am Missy Cochran and I love photography, I fact, you could say that I am obsessive. It all started when I got married and had my wonderfully awesome grandpa take my pictures. He was a professional photographer and I thought all photographers were the same. After the wedding, I got the pictures back and they were all very traditional. Not grandpa’s fault, but mine for not knowing what I wanted. Anyway, I realized too late that I had actually wanted something different than what I got. Since my wedding is all over, I now get to live vicariously through my awesome couples. Other stuff about me is that I make a goal every three months to run regularly, but haven’t yet quite found my mojo. I think I like the idea of being a runner but maybe I am not really one at heart! I love sweets and I love my church and doing things that add joy to my life.

Welcome to my photography blog-site!  This page will tell you about this blog-site and about me, Missy Cochran – Photographer.  You may have guessed that I am a Portland photographer.  The site is dedicated to my wedding and portrait photography as well as to helping other aspiring photographers.  Although I am located in Hillsboro, Oregon, just outside of Portland, I am willing to travel to almost any location for a wedding or portrait session and it’s one of my dreams to photograph a destination wedding in Hawaii.  Alllooohaaa

What is a Blog?  Although many of you are hip to the online world, I still meet people who wonder what a blog is.  When I told one of my aunts about my blog, her response was, “Eww, ‘blog’ is an ugly word.”  That made me laugh because she is right, it is kind of an ugly word.  The word ‘blog’ is an abbreviation for ‘weblog’ which is a lot nicer.  You may wonder what it is that one would do with a weblog.  Think of it like an online diary.  If I sit down at my computer and write some of my thoughts and add a few pictures and hit the publish button, it will make a new post to my blog.  When you subscribe to the blog by email, you will get an email whenever I make a new post.  This is an awesome way to stay up to date with all my current photography sessions and things that are going on with me.  My blog features my latest photo sessions, tips for photographers, ideas to make your pictures better, and tidbits about my life all randomly jumbled together. Using the categories button on the top menu can help you isolate your interest. If you like what you see, add me to your subscriptions to get the latest updates to the blog. Also I love comments! What is a Blog-site?  It’s basically a blog and a website mixed together.  I have a website with a bunch of pictures and pricing information and info about me, but I am much better at keeping my blog up to date than I am at keeping the website up to date.  Once I realized that I could combine the two, I have been itching to combine them.  This site isn’t quite complete yet, though.  The blog is functional and you can use the categories button on the top bar to look at blog posts relating to a specific topic, but the website part isn’t up yet.  I am working on that and will probably make an announcement on the blog when the site is finished.  For now, you can click on the portfolio button to visit the old website that I am phasing out.

About my photography  It all started with wedding photography.  Digital changed many people’s expectations for their wedding pictures.  Storytelling is so important to the brides and grooms who hire me as their wedding photographer, but I like to take some traditional family pictures to appease parents and grandparents as well.  Portland wedding photographers in general are leaning more toward this style of photography and digital makes it possible.  When I take pictures at a wedding, I usually end up with about 3500 images which I narrow down to about 500 which tell a beautiful story and you get a disc of 4×6 proofs of all 500 pictures.  I try to think about what would look good in a magazine.  My photography is artistic and full of emotion.  Often times people tell me that it is fresh and that is a big compliment to me because I don’t want to blend in with everyone else.

As a Portland portrait photographer, I take pictures of babies, children, families, and high school seniors.  My style is artistic and expressive.  Often times the subject isn’t looking directly at the camera.  Even my portrait sessions tell a story.  Maternity photography might include a toddler kissing mommy’s baby belly.  Baby photography would have sweet baby outfits and mommy and daddy and baby holding each other and smiling at each other.  Children’s photography might include running around, bubbles, fields, balloons, lollipops and everything that defines childhood (but not all in one session, whew!).  Senior portraits would reflect who the senior is and their interests.  I love using meaningful elements that the senior brings like a skateboard or pets.  Some fun locations are downtown Portland, the Oregon coast, or even your backyard.  I usually travel for every photo session so lets get creative!  Because every photograph I take is pieces of a story, my portrait sessions include a set of 5×7 proofs.  The biggest complaint I get from people is that there are too many good ones to choose from so these days, I give you all of them!  This is so cool because you can put them in a collage frame or individual frames or just put them in a keepsake box for safe storage or scrapbook them.  Large prints, photo albums, and even a disc of the printable images are also available to order.
